Review The Class She Skips

"The Class She Skips" is a delightful Christian romance that completely charmed me. While I found it a little slower to get into than Ella Marie's previous work, "The Game She Hates," the payoff was well worth the initial investment. Once I was hooked, I couldn't put it down! The story beautifully balances a sweet romance with genuine exploration of faith, making it a truly heartwarming read.

I absolutely adored the characters. Enzo, the dedicated single dad, is endearingly protective and thoughtful, particularly in his interactions with his adorable daughter, Gianna. His careful consideration for Charlie's heart, even amidst their forbidden attraction, felt genuine and respectful. Speaking of Charlie, she’s a relatable character, struggling with faith and financial burdens, yet possessing a kind spirit and unwavering loyalty to her friends. Her journey of growth and strengthening her faith felt organic and inspiring. The supporting characters, Robyn and Pearl (returning from the previous book!), are fantastic. Their unwavering friendship and supportive nature adds another layer of warmth and heart to the narrative. Their presence emphasizes the power of Christ-centered friendships and how they can lift and inspire one another.

The author masterfully weaves together the complexities of their relationship, acknowledging the challenges of their forbidden romance within the context of their faith. The internal struggles of both Enzo and Charlie feel authentic, making their eventual reconciliation all the more satisfying. The development of their relationship is paced perfectly, allowing their feelings to blossom naturally, never feeling rushed or forced.

I particularly appreciated the inclusion of Gianna; her youthful wisdom and adorable interactions with Charlie added so much charm and levity to the story. Their budding friendship was heartwarming and showcased the innocent joy that can arise from unexpected connections. The way Enzo cares for Gianna's natural hair is a small but beautiful detail that spoke volumes about his character and his dedication to his daughter. It’s moments like these, sprinkled throughout the book, that make it so special.

The author's writing style is easy to read and the narrative flows smoothly. The themes of faith, healing, and trust are interwoven seamlessly into the storyline without feeling preachy or heavy-handed. Instead, they provide a comforting and uplifting backdrop to the developing romance. The dialogue feels natural and engaging, further enhancing the overall reading experience.

While the book contains elements of grief and past trauma, it’s handled with sensitivity and never feels overwhelming. The focus remains firmly on the characters' journeys toward healing and finding love within the grace of God. If you enjoy Christian romance with relatable characters, a sweet and tender romance, and a strong focus on faith and friendship, then "The Class She Skips" is definitely a book you should add to your reading list. I highly recommend it!
